Chicago

Multi-platinum Grammy winners and big brass rock innovators Chicago return to Hard Rock Live on May 4. In 1967, Chicago musicians Walter Parazaider, Terry Kath, Danny Seraphine, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Robert Lamm, and Peter Cetera formed a group with one dream, to integrate all the musical diversity from their beloved city and weave a new sound, a rock 'n' roll band with horns. Their dream turned into 20 Top Ten singles, 12 Top Ten albums (five of which were #1), and sales of more than 120 million records.

Well known for being one of the first (and, one of the few) rock bands to make extensive use of horns, Chicago started as a politically charged, sometimes experimental rock band and later moved to a softer sound, becoming famous for producing a number of hit ballads.

While albums III and Live at Carnegie Hall fared more modestly, Chicago forged ahead with their fifth effort, buoyed by the hit "Saturday In The Park," which reached #3 - the band's biggest hit thus far, making critically-acclaimed Chicago V the biggest hit album of 1972, and Chicago's first #1 album. Albums Chicago VI through XIV are most well-known for the popular hits and ballads "Just You 'N' Me" (#4), "Feelin' Stronger Every Day" (#10), "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long" (#9), "Wishing You Were Here" (#11), "If You Leave Me Now" (#1), "Baby, What A Big Surprise" (#4) and "Alive Again" (#14), but the band's popularity soon waned. It wasn't until 1982's XVI that featured the hits "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" (#1), and "Love Me Tomorrow" (#8) that Chicago bounced back to platinum, reaching #9, rescuing their career in the process. After that, a steady stream of hits including "Stay The Night" (#16), "Hard Habit To Break" (#3), "You're The Inspiration" (#3), "Along Comes A Woman" (#14), "Look Away" (#1), and "I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love" (#3) inspired a new generation.

Though the line-up may have changed through the years, Chicago retains the legacy of music they inherited from their parents and their teachers and that they have brought to millions of fans Photo by:Johnny Louis/jlnphotography.com

Carlos Santana

Multi-platinum world music icon Carlos Santana will bring his impressive roster of crossover hits to Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on April 30.

Carlos Santana has been reinventing and reshaping the popular music landscape and culture for close to four decades. His signature sound-fusing rock, jazz, blues, soul, Latin idioms, multi-cultural genres and more-is as unique as it is instantly identifiable. Born in Autlan de Navarro, Mexico-where there's now a street and public square in his name--to the son of a virtuoso Mariachi violinist, Santana followed in his father's musical footsteps, taking up the violin at the age of five. It was when his family moved to Tijuana several years later, however, that Santana began his lifelong relationship with the instrument that would make him a musical icon--the guitar. Early on he emulated his heroes--John Lee Hooker, T. Bone Walker, and B.B. King-who he heard on powerful American radio stations when their signals crossed the border.

In 1961, Santana made the crossing himself, moving from his native Mexico to San Francisco. A few years later, he formed the Santana Blues Band there, and the cool, soulful riffs and rhythms of his Latin-blues based sound found an audience eager for his innovative musical ideas. Santana and company emerged as giants of the era-defining Bay Area music scene of the late '60s, and their fame grew far beyond its parameters while their artistry remained true to its free-flying spirit. Massive success quickly followed. By the end of the decade, Santana had played to packed houses on a cross-country tour, performed on the venerable Ed Sullivan Show, and made an indelible global mark with his legendary, crowd-detonating performance at the original Woodstock festival in 1969. He has not slowed down since.

As a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Santana has sold more than 90 million records, and performed to over 100 million people, globally. He has won ten Grammy Awards, including a record tying nine for a single project for his 36th album, the blockbuster 1999 disc Supernatural. Now exceeding 25 million in sales, Supernatural's citations included Album of the Year and Record of the Year for the smash single "Smooth." Santana has also won three Latin GRAMMY Awards, and in 2004, he received the Latin Recording Academy's prestigious "Person of the Year" honor. His most recent releases are 2005's All That I Am and 2007's Carlos Santana and Wayne Shorter Live at the 1988 Montreux Jazz Festival. Photo by: Johnny Louis/jlnphotography.com

I was in the process of writing this article for The Observer news paper, then I decided to submit it to my blog. However, it is not yet finished. So I will continue to add more info. and define more about about what is the faith of Islam. I plan on questioning some people for this article. the details will be posted for viewing.

THE MEANNIG OF ISLAM
(Is.Lam \is-‘läm, iz-, -‘lam, is-)

What is Islam? Is the question a lot of people around the world have been asking themselves in the past five years ever since the 9-11 attack on the World Trade center, commonly known as the Twin Towers. When these structures were brought down (to its waist). Since then, there has been a lot of hate crime, animosity and two wars in the Middle East in Afghanistan and Iraq. But, with all the rhetoric, and talk about Muslims, no one seems to offer me a definition of what is a Muslim; so, I went on a search for the truth and the definition of what it is to be a Muslin or supposed to be.

According to the Webster Ninth New College Dictionary published in 1998, BY THE Merriam-Webster Inc. Publisher. Muslim is defined as “Muslim \’mez-lem,’muz-\ n [Ar muslim, lit., one who surrenders (to God)] (1615) 1: an adherent of Islam 2: BLACK MUSLIM”
However the in the recent Webster Dictionary published in (2006 the definition of islam and muslim are………………….
I first started at my home town and my back yard by asking some of the muslin student body about the definition of muslin and continued my quest asking some of the faculty, religious leader and Muslim leader in our community. It was interesting to say the list that I found out that Muslims and non-Muslim alike believe in ………………….

On Monday the ten of November, I turn in my final paper for enc1101. so, follow-up that week on Friday me I my fiancé went to get the car detail and fumigated for ants. While witting on the lobby i got a phone call from Wycleft Jean and Mecca aka Grimo rep to be available to cover them to take photo during they performance at club mansion also feature Miami Heat Official DJ, DJ Irie. i arrive there at 11:30 p.m meet the club rep, get my pass for access and proceed toward back stage. i was introduce to the club owner. He appears to be a cool guy. We waited for wycleft party for two hour. Then, they arrived. The first performances did not take place for at least one hour later. Mecca performer first than Wycleft Jean jump in at the mind end of Mecca performance than take over like a storm. Unlike most artists cleft seem too enjoyed to perform in front of a grown. The audience embrace cleft with a cheer loud enough to bring down the Kremlin wall. During his performance as usual he jumps in the crown and begin to get them involved with the event. The crown seems to love the way he interact with them as everyday joe. he must a perform at least four to five song which seem to go on forever with Dj Irie and him go back and forward on the mic. Now i know why DJ Irie got the ring his spinning technique his fabulous.
